Gulu. The chairperson of the Acholi Parliamentary Group and MP for Aswa County, Mr Ronald Reagan Okumu, has challenged the army to prosecute former coordinator of intelligence services David Sejusa for absconding from duty when he fled into exile in April 2013.
Gen Sejusa returned to Uganda on December 14 from London.
"If Mr Sejusa is not disciplined, it will encourage indiscipline among the officers in the forces and other officers might withdraw their loyalty from the nation," Mr Okumu told journalists in Gulu Town on Monday. 
He said the General behaved unprofessionally by absconding from military service.
Mr Okumu also said it would be a clear manifestation that Gen Sejusa was sent abroad on a spy mission by President Museveni probably to gather intelligence on Opposition activities if the army fails to discipline Gen Sejusa.
Mr Okumu wondered why the ex-spy chief only talked about vote rigging by NRM but was silent on his action when he commanded Operation North, a counterinsurgency military offensive in 1991 which caused bloodshed in the northern region.
Since his return, Gen Sejusa said he wanted to join politics and has written to the army seeking retirement.
The army spokesperson, Lt Col Paddy Ankunda, said the UPDF was waiting for guidance from President Museveni following Gen Sejusa's return.
