{UAH} THIS IS THE KIND OF ACHOLI VIOLENCE WE MUST STOP IN OUR COUNTRY
Friends
As we continue to post these atrocities, I need to ask a simple question, at what point is it a responsibility of you as a Ugandan to protect the weak among you? This woman stood in front of his fellow Ugandans, they demanded that his father screws her, the father refused to do so, they tied him with a rope and ordered him to lay on top of her. The poor fellow at gun point tried to penetrate his own daughter but he failed. Do you know what they did? They shot him in the chest while still on top of his daughter, and he died instantly. They actually got a bottle, broke it and used its pieces to cut a vagina of an 8 year old. When is violence in Uganda actually defined as violence? At what point do you stand up as Ugandans and stop the Acholi violence?
Uganda: Rape Victims' Report Out
By Wandera W'ouma
Luwero — Ms Hellen Liebling, an international researcher has asked that the perpetrators of the Luwero atrocities are tried in an international court.
"Rape in war torn areas is crime tried in an international court. Who ever is responsible should be made accountable," she said.
Liebling who conducted a research in Kasana, Kamuli, Wakayamba, Kapeka and Kibose parishes between 2001 and 2002 said 99 of the women interviewed said they were raped.
She was speaking at the launch of a report titled "Study findings on women's experiences of rape, violence and torture during civil war years in Luwero" at Kikamulo Community Hall on Thursday.
"Soldiers made my father sleep with me. When he refused, they tied him with ropes and ordered him to lie on me. He tried to penetrate me but failed. He was shot in the chest and died instantly," reads a woman's testimony.
The report was released by Isis WICCE, an international NGO advocating for women's rights.
Ms Victoria Mwaka (Woman MP Luwero) officiated at the launch.
Liebling said of the respondents, 86 per cent were infected with STDs including HIV/Aids.
"I was eight years, a soldier asked for a bottle which he broke and told his friend to hold one of my legs apart. The soldier held the other and he cut me in my private parts," a victim from Kasana told the gathering.
The Isis WICCE director, Ms Ruth Ojambo, later handed over 70 goats to the traumatised women.
The money was donated by the Older Feminist Network of South Wales.
Ojambo warned the beneficiaries' husbands against selling the goats for Christmas.
The Rotary Club of Bukoto also promised to solicit for funds to build a rehabilitation center and US $ 2,000 to construct bore holes in the area.
