KAMPALA (Scrap Monster): A geographical survey of the lands of Uganda, made it clear that the country, hides in itself about 260 million tonnes of iron ore , which is more than sufficient for the development of steel industry in the country.
One of the senior geologists in the Department of Geological Survey and Mines, Francis Natukunda, stated that, the survey revealed greater deposit of iron ore, which was more than the deposit which was revealed in the earlier reported colonial mappings. In addition to that, the Sustainable Management of Mineral Resources has also revealed the discovery of huge diamond deposits which is located very much near to the areas of Lake Kyoga.
All these revelations regarding the discoveries, were announced at the South African Trade and Investment Seminar, which lasted for 2 days, and was conducted at the Sheraton Hotel, which was located in Kampala. The deposition of iron ore in Uganda was unknown until the survey was completed in the year 2009.
Natukunda stated that, the country has about 200 million tonnes of hematite iron ore, which is located in the Southwestern part of Uganda, and 60 million tonnes of magnetite iron ore, which is located in the Southeastern part of the country. He also added that, more explorations still are to be conducted.
