A Ugandan was on Monday night shot dead in the South Sudan capital of Juba when unknown gunmen broke into his house.

Brahn Obiga, the Chairman of the Ugandan Community in South Sudan Tuesday said Tairi Ayub, a chapati vendor at the Jeberi market was gunned down by a gang of about four armed men who stormed his house near the market.

Obiga condemned the incident terming it unfortunate.

"The thugs first robbed him of some money before shooting him dead," Obiga said of the incident that happened about mid night, adding that they had not yet established the motive of the thugs.

"We do not know whether they were after money or could have shot him after he had recognized them," Obiga said.

Tairi's body had by the time of filing this story been removed by the South Sudan Police and transferred to the Juba Teaching hospital for postmortem, pending being transported to Uganda for burial.

The incident comes hardly two months after an errant policeman shot dead three Ugandans and injured another in Bor market in Jonglei state, sparking riots by Ugandans there.

In the December incident the policeman is said to have stormed the market and opened fire indiscriminately, killing three people instantly.

The caretaker governor of Jonglei, John Kong Nyuon described the killings as a criminal act carried out by a mentally impaired individual. The incident triggered off a series of security meetings.
