Pop star Charli XCX, whose mother grew up in Uganda, told Logo in a new interview that she wouldn't return to the country because of its recent track record on homophobic laws:

"I've never actually performed in Uganda, but my mother grew up there. I feel so sad that I am related to that country in some way, because of what the government has decided there. We visited when I was a lot younger [but] I wouldn't return. It's just so un-progressive what's happening there right now. I feel so much sadness for all the people who have to struggle under that law that was passed."

Uganda was the center of controversy in recent years over its Anti Homosexuality Act, which sought to increase the country's existing punishments for homosexuality and prevents its "promotion." That bill was passed but later struck down by the courts over a technicality, though lawmakers are working on a replacement bill, which some activists fearwill be even harsher. In brighter news for the country though, LGBT activists are publishing a new magazineBombastic, in spite of the restrictive laws.

Charli XCX has just come off a big 2014, having featured on Iggy Azalea's Number One hit 'Fancy', and released her own hit singles in 'Boom Clap' and 'Break the Rules', before released her second major label album, Sucker, in December.

While speaking with Logo, the singer also revealed that she has synesthesia, meaning she sees colors when she hears music. Taylor Swift's 'Shake It Off' looks like "baby blue and bubblegum pink" apparently, while Sam Smith's 'Stay With Me' is "kind of like silver… it's very whimsical and sad."
