{UAH} Don"t shut Ibanda schools. Hold the owners by the hand and show them what to do.

Ministry of Education officials should be fired because they them selves are not good teachers. They should be teach private school owners what to do and how to instead of shutting them down after one lousy inspection.

If these schools exist and are full of students this means that there is demand and the owners are supplying a product to meet the coinsumer/ peoples needs.

Its also an indication that Govt is not delivering on schools.

If they do not have pit latrines Govt can jump in and provide the funding or build the pit latrines. These school owners are complimenting Govt in delivery of services.

Ug govt officials need to wake up!

Ibanda District authorities on Tuesday closed 49 private primary, secondary and nursery schools due to lack of proper teaching environment and facilities.

The acting district education officer, Mr Gaudius Ahimbisibwe, said the schools are part of 148 which were inspected by a team led by Chief Administrative Officer Alice Rushure, Resident District Commissioner Eliasto Akatuheebwa and District Police Commander Ignatius Otong.

Mr Ahimbisibwe said many of the affected schools lacked pit-latrines and in some, boys shared the latrines with girls, teachers and non-teaching staff. He said the schools also did not have standard classrooms, enough ventilators and that in some cases, two classes have been sharing a room, adding that they did not have reference text books for teachers, laboratory and library too.

"Some are teaching from commercial buildings and garages while others are operating near bars and video halls," Mr Ahimbisibwe said.

He said the school directors and heads will have to work hard and improve the conditions before the first term opens on Monday.

However, more than 120 parents, directors and head teachers yesterday stormed the offices of DEO, RDC and CAO expressing concern and disappointments over the untimely closure of the schools saying they were not notified of any inspection and were asking to be allowed to open for first term.
