BUSHENYI- The Archbishop of the Church of Uganda Stanley Ntagali, has dismissed claims by his predecessor Henry Luke Orombi that Namirembe Cathedral is infested with demons.

Former Archbishop Orombi was quoted during his sermon on the New Year's Eve that Namirembe Cathedral, the headquarters of the Anglican Church in Uganda, had demons which manifest themselves in form of black cats.

"My predecessor's controversial story made headlines in the media, saying Namirembe is full of demons and leaders no longer pray and fast. How can the seat of the archbishop sit on demons? I have lived at the hill for two years and I have not seen those demons. What do they look like?" Archbishop Ntagali asked.

He was preaching at the Annual Youth and Students International Convention at Bweranyangi Cathedral in West Ankole Diocese on Friday.

Archbishop Ntagali said Orombi's demon claims were baseless and should be ignored.
He said if a person believes in demons, then he or she subscribes to them.

"If you have connections with demons, you will see them. Archbishop Mpalanyi Nkoyoyo did not see those demons. At the Archbishop's Palace, we pray and fast and we have established intercessory arrangements," Archbishop Ntagali said.

He continued: "Let's pray for that brother [Orombi], who said such utterances. As religious leaders, we need to preach and speak wisely because we are in days of evil."

Orombi's demon claims stirred mixed reactions in the Church of Uganda as some Christians wondered how demons could attack a holy ground. Orombi further claimed some Christian leaders do not pray and fast, which is the reasons for demons in their faith.

The four-day convention drew thousands of youth and students from West Ankole Diocese and beyond, including the US and UK.

West Ankole Diocese Bishop, Rt Rev Yona Katoneene, lashed out at "detractors" who had rallied some youth in Sheema District to boycott the conference. He said nobody can confuse what God has planned.

There has been a conflict between Bishop Katoneene and other Christians from Sheema over the alleged transfer of West Ankole University project from the Kabwohe campus in Sheema to Katungu in Bushenyi District
