IN SUMMARY
Fr Gaetano Batanyenda says the new premier's clean record may be spoiled by unscrupulous politicians.
Kabale. Fr Gaetano Batanyenda, the parish priest of Kitanga Catholic Parish in Kabale Diocese, has said prime minister Ruhakana Rugunda needs special prayers and God's guidance to enable him keep his clean political record because he is working with unscrupulous and corrupt politicians.
Fr Batanyenda is also the chairman Inter-Religious Council in Kigezi sub-region and is a coordinator of Kick Corruption Out of Kigezi, a local advocacy organisation for public accountability.
"Dr Rugunda has been one of the clean politicians in Uganda. His recent involvement in Works minister Abraham Byandala investigations over the Mukono–Katosi road may be interpreted that he has started dining with politicians whose integrity is being questioned. Dr Rugunda needs special prayers so that his new appointment does not bring down his long time built political integrity and reputation," Fr Batanyenda said.
Fr Batanyenda made the call while addressing journalists at his office in Kabale Town on Monday.
He praised CIID director Grace Akullo and the IGG, Ms Irene Mulyagonja, for their role in fighting corruption.
