Basic Function
The PD fellow will work on a project funded by DAFM with the objective of improving the accuracy of saleable yield prediction from the automated beef carcass classification systems in use in Ireland, possibly including other measurements, equipment and variables. Collaborators in the project include the Irish Cattle and Breeding Federation (ICBF), the manufacturer of the video image analysis (VIA) automated grading equipment and beef processors.

Duties & Responsibilities specific to this project:
•To thoroughly review the relevant literature and identify promising additional variables to predict saleable yield
•To organise and carry out on-line factory trials to collect data on these variables

Person Specification
Essential
PhD in Meat Science, Food Science, Animal Science, Animal Breeding, Veterinary Science, or a related discipline
Relevant research experience not to exceed 3 years post-PhD

Desirable
•Experience in carcass composition and grading
•Experience in working with industry partners
