There was drama at Bafana Bafana's pre-match conference in Equatorial Guinea when coach Shakes Mashaba refused to answer questions in English.

Instead Mashaba answered questions in isiZulu as he protested against the treatment meted out to South African journalists earlier on during Algeria's press conference.

"This is the Africa Cup of Nations and I speak the language I understand," he said yesterday.

This sparked a mini demonstration from other journalists as the proceedings got out of hand, but Mashaba stuck to his guns and only answered questions in isiZulu.

Mashaba did this in solidarity with South African journalists who were left stranded during Algeria's conference, which was conducted in French and Arabic earlier in the day.

CAF officials who were conducting the conference blamed this chaos on the local organising committee for failing to organise translators.

They promised to have translators ready for the opening matches tonight.

Ghana take on Senegal in the first match while Bafana and Algeria will contest the second at 9pm South African time.
