Uganda: Yebei Probe Moves to Uganda Message Source
By Mathews NdanyiCID detectives were yesterday finalising DNA tests to identify the body claimed to be that of ICC witness Meshack Yebei at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital morgue in Eldoret.
The detectives have extended the probe on Yebei's disappearance to Uganda, where they are tracing a number, which sent a text message indicating that Yebei was in the country.
Soon after he went missing on December 28, a text message from an anonymous number was sent to his mother and a friend, in which the witness was quoted as saying he was in Uganda with a team from the ICC.
The message was written in Kalenjin.
(abwati ale ichamegei, kwawe uganda urgently. kimi ak ngamotik cheb bensouda nekile patrick ak lugusa. ami komie, mosich wasiwasi. meshack ako namba nenyu ni)
'I hope you are okay, I went to Uganda urgently. I am with Bensouda's people Patrick and Lugusa. This is . . . I am alright don't worry and this is my number'. It originated from the number 256-773125351.
Yesterday a source within the investigations team said they were working with their Ugandan counterparts to trace the number through the message was sent.
On Wednesday, relatives of Hussein Yussuf turned up at Moi Teaching and Refferral Hospital, Eldoret to claim the body.
CID officers said the body has been lying at the morgue since January 1.
