{UAH} History of Egyptian attempt to colonise Uganda n how Bunyoro saved Uganda
Dear All
Lawyer Peter Gukiina wrote a book on Uganda's history which is good material for Uganda's school systm. Its in his book titled.UGANDA, a case study of AFRICAN POLITICAL DEVELOPMENT.But, Samuel Baker continued as Governor of Equatorial Province ruling on behalf of Egypt. In 1871 Baker returned to Bunyoro, raised an Egyptian flag at Gondokoro and issued a proclamation on May 6, outlawing slave trade and annexing Bunyoro-Kitara to Egypt.
In 1872 the Banyoro army, The Abarusuura, commanded by General Rwabudongo, rose up in arms and attacked Baker's, and Egyptian forces militarily driving them out of Bunyoro-Kitara.
Bunyoro after her second defeat of Samuel Baker's troops became more determined to resist European colonisation. They got convinced that they could fore ever resist European and Egyptian military invasions.
Having been defeated on his return to Britan Sameul Baker began a press attack on Kabaleega lableing him all sorts of bad names including being anti-civilisation.
This Baker press campaign in all major European newspapers painted a bad picture of Kabaleega as a bad man who will civilisation unable to go to Uganda.Hence Britain got an excuse to invade Bunyoro-Kitara killing over two million Banyoro.
