The Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, Nutritional Sciences and Environmental Management invites applications for a W2 Professorship for Insect Biotechnology
with focus on natural product research
as of now Reference is made to § 61 section 7 Hessisches Hochschulgesetz (HHG) and to conditions of employment based on § 62 HHG. Proficient knowledge of German is expected. The successful candidate will represent the faculty in teaching and research as follows: The associate professor has to perform lectures in the subjects insect biotechnology, applied entomology, and natural product research as well as closely related disciplines at the bachelor's and master's degree programs of the department. It is expected that the lectures will be offered in English as needed. A participation in the development of the master program insect biotechnology is required. The professorship is integrated into the scientific concept of the LOEWE Center for Insect Biotechnology and Bioresources (ZIB). An outstanding expertise in research is expected in the field of identification and structural characterization of natural products (small molecules, enzymes, and other compounds) from insects or microorganisms associated with them, documented by exceptional, relevant publications in the field. Experience in raising third-party money and project management is a prerequisite. Experience in the acquisition and management of projects from industry and expertise in the identification, characterization, and development of drugs such as anti-infectives is desired. Integration into internal and external research collaborations of the department and the university is expected. An involvement in graduate education at the International Giessen Graduate School for the Life Sciences (GGL) is desired. The Justus Liebig University aims to employ more women in academic research.
