{UAH} How UNSA Members Conned President Museveni of shs60 Million
In a chilling revelation, the Uganda National Students Association (UNSA) Secretary of Publicity and Information, Mr. Dennis Obita has given a blow-by-blow account of the ugly details surrounding the recently-held sham UNSA Council Meeting that was “illegally” called at Teso College Aloet in Soroti District purportedly to elect a new executive, at which meeting President Museveni was conned of Ushs60 million by four scheming members of the UNSA. Mr. Obita also insists that that meeting and the elections were illegal.
According to Mr. Obita, the quartet which comprised of the EX UNSA President Matanda Abubaker; FINANCE
Secretary Ekima Emmanuel, Jumba Saidi the Deputy Speaker as well as Sserwadda Mohammed, the Executive secretary secretly held a meeting at which they conspired to and eventually conned President M7 of a whooping 60 Million Uganda Shillings which they claimed was to be used to organise the Students Body Council Meeting at which M7 was the chief guest.
Mr. Obita recounted the events as below:
“On the 25th day of Jan 2015, those guys briefed me about how they had come up with some demands that they would make to the President and that I should ask everyone else not to ‘spoil their deal.’ Those demands included financial assistance and job placements. Matanda organized the above-mentioned partners-in-crime and they handed over their CVs to M7 to help them secure lucrative jobs.
On the 26th after the President had officially opened the Council Meeting, Matanda briefed the president about the meeting and begged him for 60 Million which he claimed was to be used for facilitating the meeting. He alleged that UNSA needed 80M [which was untrue]to organize the meeting but only had 20M [also untrue, because we had only 5M]so he requested from M7 an extra 60M to which the President agreed. Matanda personally picked the money from the President’s Secretary Peace Mutuzo at 6:30am the following day in HARD CASH. That’s the last we heard of it. There has never been any accountability for it and there is no way we needed all that money to organize a two-day meeting which was attended by less than 200 delegates instead of the over 1000 delegates.”
Mr Obita further alleges that the Deputy Speaker of UNSA, Jumba Saidi, confessed to have been bribed with 4.5 Million Uganda Shillings to call that meeting at which a new executive headed by MUK’s Lilian Aber as its President was elected. This was because Ms Anna Ebaju Adeke who was by then the UNSA Speaker & leader of the UNSA caretaker gov’t and the only one authorised to call such meetings had refused to “co-operate” with them. Ms Adeke is on record as having dismissed the elections, calling them illegal. Obita mirrors her view, asserting that the Deputy Speaker acted ultra vires by sending out notices calling for the meeting clearly usurping Adeke’s powers as laid down in the UNSA Constitution.
Mr. Obita goes on to add that there was no quorum at the Council meeting during which the new executive was elected since majority of the UNSA delegates were not in attendance; that the elections were held at around 10pm and that there was massive rigging.
“Ogwang Richard the UNSA co-ordinator for Lira district showed off 26 ballot papers which had been pre-ticked in favor of a certain candidate. The four mobilized buses full of Secondary School students from nearby schools and M7 was blind-folded into addressing them, thinking that were the UNSA delegates. After M7 left, those students followed suit and the place was left empty.”
Plans, according to Mr. Obita, are underway to seek redress from Courts of Law to have those elections nullified. Ms Adeke still refuses to hand over to the “new executive” the Instruments of Power.
