{UAH} Museveni declares Feb 16 public holiday
Folks;
As a famously lazy man, I welcome a public holiday any day of the week. I could even use two in one week.
But I'm uneasy with the way President Museveni is declaring Feb 16 as a public holiday. This roadside pronouncement doesn't come with the legal weight that other Public Holidays bear.
The president, obviously, wants to honor Archbishop Luwum, and without mentioning them, the two ministers, Erinayo Oryema and my fellow Jap, Charles Oboth-Ofumbi, with whom the prelate was assassinated. That being the case, the president should have come up with a neutral name that would apply to all public servants who were killed by the Amin regime, and call it "National Remembrance Day."
So, we would henceforth observe Feb 16 in memory of our gallant sons and daughters who paid the ultimate prize in serving our country under the brutal circumstances of Idi Amin.
