In Summary
Some members claimed they were deleted from the list of beneficiaries while the party insists the money was for only those that met the President.
Lira-A section of NRM carders in Lira District who missed out on the Shs390 million that President Museveni gave a delegation that recently visited him at State House, Entebbe have threatened to demonstrate when he visits next week.
The cadres cite lack of transparency in sharing the money.
On February 6, the district received the money for 65 beneficiaries to popularise NRM in the area.
They were expected to share Shs200 million and allocate Shs190m to 1,920 village saving groups in Lango sub-region.
Ms Betty Engola, the wife of the Minister of State for Housing, Mr Sam Engola, was mandated to oversee the distribution of the Shs200m and Lira NRM youth chairperson, Ms Linda Auma, was tasked to distribute the rest to the village groups.
According to a beneficiary, MrJohn Bosco Akaca, the distribution took place at 291 Suit, about three kilometres from Lira Town last Friday.
"When I arrived at 291 Suit, I found that more than 60 members had already been served. I was the last person to receive the package and each person was getting Shs3 million," Mr Akaca told Daily Monitor on Tuesday.
He said the Oyam Resident District Commissioner, Ms Gillian Akullo, was reading out names of the beneficiaries, while Ms Auma was ticking them.
However, Mr Okello Alyana claimed his name was deleted from the list of beneficiaries.
He said he would petition Mr Museveni over the matter when he vis the district.
Mr Engola, also the NRM party chairperson for northern Uganda, maintained that the money was only meant for 65 supporters who met the President at State House at that time.
Opposition politicians criticised the manner in which the taxpayers' money was being wasted in the name of soliciting support ahead of 2016 general elections.
