{UAH} President says Busoga murder suspects in custody, As Bugiri settles for Lyavala for LCV chair
President Yoweri Museveni has said following intense investigations
into mysterious murders carried out in the districts of Namayingo,
Bugiri and Mayuge, a number of suspects have been arrested and that
security agencies are pursuing more leads that will help resolve these
cases.
"I was annoyed over the killings in Namayingo, Bugiri and Mayuge
districts. I started doing my own investigations and in a short time
we were able to arrest a number of people suspected to be involved in
the murders. Those not yet arrested will be apprehended because the
security personnel know who they are," he said.
Early this month, the President made impromptu visits to the scenes of
murder in Namayingo where Okware Tito, who served as the publicity
secretary for NRM party was shot dead by three gunmen at his home in
Namayingo Township and in Mayuge where Sheikh Daktur Kadhir Muwaya the
leader of the Shia Muslim community and a prominent member of the
ruling NRM was killed. The President was accompanied by the director,
Criminal Investigations and Intelligence Directorate Grace Akullo and
the newly appointed regional Police commander of Busoga North, Ashraf
Chemonges.
The President was addressing the district NRM delegates' conference
for Bugiri yesterday at Bugiri High School. He called for
reconciliation among the Bugiri district National Resistance Movement
(NRM) leaders.
The conference was held following a conflict between various district
personalities led by Fred Mukisa on one hand and Siraj Lyavala who are
contesting for the by elections for the LC5 Chairperson Bugiri
district.
The conference attracted leaders from eleven Sub-Counties that
constitute Bugiri district in Busoga Sub-Region. During the
conference, it was unanimously agreed that Siraj Lyavala be nominated
as NRM flag bearer for the by election of the LC5 Chairperson which is
slated to take place in March this year. The delegates agreed that
Lyavala had a lot of experience, was instrumental in pushing for NRM
developments in the district and for promoting unity among various
groups.
The President observed that the people of Bugiri have been split in to
two camps for a long time and cautioned delegates not to joke with the
elections of leaders adding that politics is a science and not an
emotional venture.
"During the 2011 general elections, the people of Bukhooli Central
Constituency donated their Parliamentary seat to Wafula Oguttu of FDC.
The move to elect the opposition MP was in reality a donation of the
Constituency to Oguttu. When you make mistakes and elect wrong people,
the electorates suffer," he said.
The President urged leaders to focus their efforts in promoting unity
and income generation for the people.
"Your focus and priority today should entail ensuring infrastructure
development and effective service delivery. It is better for the
people to unite for the remaining six months term and ensure that
there is peace in the area.
The NRM Secretary General, Justine Lumumba Kasule, saluted the
President for sparing time to intervene in the conflict and for
blessing the conference. She observed that it was the first district
delegates' conference that the President as National Chairman has been
able to attend.
