Free State Premier Ace Magashule delivered his state of the province address today. S'thembile Cele and Carien du Plessis look at 10 things worth noting from his speech:

1. Education: Eight schools will be built in various districts in the province.

2. Social cohesion and nation building: The province will build a Heroes Park in Thaba 'Nchu that will preserve and celebrate the heritage of our forebears and those who sacrificed their lives for freedom. The park will host statues of the likes of Nelson Mandela, Oliver Tambo, Bram Fischer, Joe Slovo and Beyers Naudé.

3. Agriculture: A mega "agri park" is coming in the Xhariep district. It will entail fish, ostrich, sheep and vegetable production, packaging and marketing.

4. Rural development: The township revitalisation programme will reach the communities of Tweespruit, Excelsior, Clocolan, Marquard, Soutpan, Tshiame and various other towns in the Xhariep district.

5. Health: Medical doctors and nurses from Cuba will be joining the Free State and working in hospitals such as the Albert Nzula and Senorita hospitals. About 200 Free State students are already in Cuba.

6. Human settlements: Water and sewer networks will be installed in Pahameng, Bulfontein, Wesselsborn, Refengkgotso-Themba Khubeka, Excelsior and Caleb Motshabi as part of the turnkey development. About 11 500 sites will be serviced.

7. Social development: A state-of-the-art victim empowerment and rehabilitation centre will be opened this year. There will be a big focus on the hiring of people with disabilities in higher positions and not just in positions of receptionists and clerks.

8. Crime and corruption: About 225 traffic wardens will commence their duties on March 15.

9. Economy and jobs: A programme to assist 900 young people to obtain their drivers' licences commenced on February 23.

10. Local government: 2015 is China Year. The Free State province will be hosting China Week from April 13-19 2015. Invitations have been extended to a number of Chinese role-players.
