HISTORICAL POLITIFACT--LUGANDA RADIO OPENS IN DAR ES-SALAAM
My uncle told me sometime back that around 1978, Ugandan exiles under the then Uganda Nationl Liberation Front (UNLF) opened a shortwave radio in the Tanzanian capital and could broadcast in Luganda and the signal was picked all  over the country. He told me some of the news readers used names like LUKWATA MBUGA, LUKOZA KAKUBA AND BARBARA BABIRYE.Little is known about the current whereabouts of thse people , for these were never their real names. My uncle went on to tell me that in December 1978 while then president Idi Amin was visiting Mpigi district,, the elders told him of how they had crushed their radios with axes, hammers etc on hearing the Luganda programmes on Radio Tanzania, the president then ordered that every elder be bought a new radio set
