Dear All
The 50th Anniversary of the Referendum on the two Lost counties Buyaga and Bugangaizi was celebrated in Kibale Distict in low key ceremonies.
The referendum on November4, 1964 was held to decide where the indigenous people of the two counties wanted to belong, Bunyoro-Kitara, Buganda or to be independent. They voted 99% to go back to mother Bunyoro-Kitara.
Buganda sticking to her colonial mentlaity opposed th3 referrendum and accordingly, Edward Muteesa who was President at that time refused to sign the resuts of the referendum. But there was a proision in the constitution that if the president refuse3s to sign the prime minister can sign on hi behalf. accordingly Milton Obot signed on behalf of Muteesa.
The return of Buyaga and Bugangaizi left the other five lost counties in Buganda colonialism. However, in 2004 two other lost counties broke off from Buganda. Thesee are Buruuli and Bunyara who voted in their separate district council to establish chiefdoms by voting in their cultural leaders Isaabaruuli and Isaabanyala.
But Buganda still clings to colonialism by still calling them their counties and Ronlad Mutebi the kabaka has schedule May to go and forcefully visit Buruuli.
