American missionary kidnapped in Nigeria
By Silvia Mwendia on February 25, 2015 — An American missionary has been kidnapped in Nigeria and her captors are already demanding a ransom of $301,500
An American missionary has been kidnapped in Nigeria in what authorities have termed as "purely criminal".
According to the Kogi State Police Commissioner Adeyemi Ogunjemilusi , the lady was kidnapped by five men who are now demanding a ransom of $301,500.
The Free Methodist Church has identified her as Rev. Phyllis Sortor, a missionary based at the Hope Academy compound in Kogi State.
It is unlikely that the kidnapping is related to Boko Haram as Kogi State is not near where the terrorist group operates. There is a possibility however that it might be the work of a splinter group.
