Alert. Police swung into action after a tip off by vigilant Christians

Kampala.

Four suspicious looking men were on Sunday arrested among hundreds of Christians who had thronged Rubaga Cathedral to commemorate Palm Sunday.

It all started when some vigilant members of the congregation became suspicious of a man who had an overgrown beard, triggering fears that he could be a terrorist. They immediately tipped off officers at Rubaga Cathedral Police Post who swung into action immediately.

The Christians were reacting to a terror alert issued by the US Embassy in Kampala last week.
Without interrupting church proceedings which were being led by the Chancellor of Kampala Archdiocese, the Rev Fr Joseph Ssebunya, police detectives tactfully asked the suspect to get out without causing a scene.

When interrogated by the police officer in charge of Rubaga Police Post, Mr Geoffrey Iga, the suspect said he is a Burundi national and revealed he has been in Uganda for three years working with a bus company.

He also disclosed he had come along with three friends who were also picked up after the prayers.

While delivering the day's sermon, Fr Ssebunya said it is regrettable that the youth are not being guided well to know their responsibility. He asked them to desist from acts of terrorism.
