The International Criminal Court`s Chief Prosecutor, Fateou Bensouda is set to visit Barlonyo massacre site where over 300 people living in the Internally Displaced Peoples` camp were hacked and burnt to death by the Lord`s Resistance Army rebels.

Ms. Bensouda, who is on her first five-day official visit to Uganda started her assignment from Parliament on Friday and on Sunday she is expected Barlonyo this afternoon.

Barlonyo in Ogur Sub County Lira district is the biggest massacre site in Lango sub region, where on 21^st of February 2004, LRA rebels attacked the village and ordered each one of the 300 residents inside their highly flammable grass thatched houses.

Fire was later set on all houses burning the occupants to char, while those who tried to escape were shot instantly or hacked to death by the merciless rebel group that terrorized northern Uganda for two decades.

The rebels left behind a horrifying scene of burnt and hacked bodies littered in almost every two square meters.

All bodies were buried in a 70 meter long V-shaped mass grave that is today a site visited by many including scholars, tourists and writers.

Ms. Bensouda and her team according to sources in her protocol are going to interview the survivors themselves in a bid to gather more evidence against the 5 indicted LRA commanders, one of whom, Maj. Gen. Dominic Ongwen is already in ICC custody in The Hague.

“We expect to physically meet and talk to real people on the ground that saw, felt and faced heinous actions of LRA combatants.” One of the Bensouda`s team member told ChimpReports but asked not to be named since he is supposed to speak to press.

The site was also visited by the Bensouda`s predecessor, Moreno Ocampo on his visit to Uganda in 2012.
