CCA Health Forum to highlight successful partnerships April 16th

Join CCA for our 2015 Health Forum: Building a Stronger, Healthier Africa to discuss how African nations and their private sector partners can build the foundation for stronger health systems through leveraging lessons learned and innovative health financing.

April 16, 2015
9:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
The Offices of Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP

Did you know?
  • More than half of all healthcare spending in sub-Saharan Africa comes from private sources, and private providers are responsible for about half of all services, according to a 2011 World Bank report.
  • Partnerships aren't just for governments: companies have a successful track record of partnering with nonprofits to achieve tangible health outcomes. Jhpiego works with ExxonMobil to deliver malaria prevention and control in Nigeria and Angola, expanding soon to Chad and Cameroon as well. Also, GE Foundation works with Partners in Health and Last Mile Health to combat the spread of Ebola, pioneering a comprehensive approach to rebuild the rural health system in Liberia.
  • A 2013 Brookings Institution report found that PPP community-based health insurance models in Kwara State in Nigeria are successful, both in improving health outcomes and in increasing the investments made in the health sector, as business increased for healthcare providers.
  • IFC currently manages PPPs in Nigeria, Benin, Ghana and Lesotho, including nearly $800,000 for a laboratory and diagnostic imaging center in Ekiti State in Nigeria and more than $1.2 million for lab and diagnostic services in Ghana.
  • The World Bank committed $115 million to the creation of a public-private partnership program in Nigeria. The program promotes PPPs for infrastructure, including health facilities infrastructure, and runs through 2017.
Successful partnerships are essential to developing effective healthcare solutions across the continent. At the April 16th CCA Health Forum, experts and business leaders in the field will share success stories and lessons learned on building new, and strengthening existing, partnerships to improve health systems in Africa.
