A 30-year-old man has been remanded to Kamuge Government Prison until Tuesday for allegedly burning his nephew last month.
Michael Biroi was accused of burning eight-year-old Rogers Kachulo's hands using dry cassava stalks.
According to the state prosecutor, Beatrice Omaaset, Biroi burnt his nephew's hands on February 10 at Nariete village, accusing him of eating mukene (silver fish) without permission.
Omaaset said on the fateful day, Kachulo, a pupil at Kachabali Primary School in Kibuku district, returned home at 2:00pm to eat lunch but did not find his mother, Gertrude Katooko, who had gone for burial.
He then ate the mukene, an act which allegedly incensed his uncle.
Jacob Maiso, Kachulo's father, said he had spent sh480,000 in treating the boy at a clinic at Nacoda trading centre, Kagumu sub-county, Kibuku district.
Maiso, a resident of Bukomolo village in Kaderuna sub-county, Budaka district, blamed the incident on the differences he had with his wife.
Paul Sisye, the Gombolola internal security officer of Kasodo, condemned the act, saying Biroi deserves a deterrent sentence.
Kachulo, who was in court, broke into tears, saying he was missing school.
"My teacher loved me. She even came home to ascertain my condition," he said.
Initially, Biroi had been charged with causing grievous bodily harm, but the charges were on Tuesday amended to unlawful wounding.
Consequently, Grade One Magistrate Paul Kedi forwarded to the case to the Chief Magistrates' Court, which has the jurisdiction to try the suspect.
