Kenyan literary icon Grace Ogot passes away

The Promised Land author Grace Ogot, died on Wednesday at Nairobi hospital after battling an illness which is not known to the public. The nurse, journalist and celebrated Kenyan writer was also one of the country's first women MPs, who was married to a leading historian Bethwell Allan Ogot.

Kenya's President and Deputy President acknowledged her passing.
