Murder accused fit for mention
Matshediso Sesike, who is accused for the murder of her boyfriend in Mmopane last year, is said to be fit to appear for mentions following a medical doctor's recommendation.
Updating the court on the latest development pertaining to the case during her appearance before Village Chief Magistrate Linah Oahile-Mokibe on March 24, Sub-Inspector Galekhutle Mashumba of Sir Seretse Khama Airport Police Station (SSKA) said a medical doctor had confirmed that the accused was medically fit and could attend court mentions.
Sesike had been excused from attending court mentions late December last year after she was granted bail and immediately went for maternity leave after giving birth to a baby boy. The accused allegedly committed the offence while she was heavily pregnant hence her medical condition did not allow her to be locked in prison for a long time.
Sesike was accused of stabbing to death her boyfriend Kabelo Louw of Ramatlabama, whom they stayed together in Mmopane on December 13, 2014. The couple, who had a thriving hawking business at the Gaborone Bus Station, was said to have a misunderstanding leading to the lady stabbing the man with sharp instrument.
However, the prosecutor sub-inspector Mashumba told the court that investigations into the matter were ongoing while police on the other hand are still awaiting postmortem report from the pathologist.
At the moment the accused, who would continue to enjoy her bail, stays at her home village Phitshane Molopo.
Asked whether she had something to say, the now composed Sesike said she has been informed by the police that she will now have to record a statement and therefore wondered if it will be necessary for her to engage a lawyer so that it could assist her in writing such.
However magistrate Oahile-Mokibe informed her that it is the duty of the investigating officer and the prosecution to explain to her what she is required of when writing a statement. She will come for another mention on April 24. ENDS
