I was aware of Ababu's tape, says Raila
Cord leader Raila Odinga has confirmed that he was aware of the infamous tapes that were tabled by Budalang'i MP Ababu Namwamba on Thursday.
Speaking during an interview on Citizen TV's the Big Question on Tuesday, Raila said that Ababu who is the chair of the Parliamentary Accounts Committee which is currently facing graft allegations should use all means to fight corruption.
The recording of Ababu and Raila allegedly proves that Defence PS Mutea Iringo bribed four PAC members to expunge his name from the committee's final report.
Raila said that Ababu made the recordings because he was trying to collect some evidence from the committee.
Raila further defended the Budalang'i MP's performance as chair stating that it is difficult for Ababu to perform his functions while majority of PAC members are from the Jubilee government.
The Cord leader however denied that he intervened to save Ababu who is facing graft allegations.
He further said that he was shocked when he heard that MPs were allegedly bribed to alter a report in Parliament.
Raila revealed that the evidence he saw of the matter allegedly showed that the Agriculture Committee had taken money for the report.
Speaking on the recent scandals at the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission, Raila said that the EACC is supposed to investigate President Uhuru Kenyatta not to ask for his help to remove its chair Mumo Matemu.
He further alleged that the "executive does not want the anti-corruption commission to exist"
On the win by ODM's candidate Elijah Memusi in the Kajiado Central parliamentary poll on Monday, Raila criticized the strategy of the party's main rival the Jubilee Alliance Party.
Raila said Cord was wrong to introduce a new party in a by election.
"In Kajiado Central, we had the right candidate in the right party," he said.
The former Prime Minister said, that his track record during the Grand Coalition showed that he has what it takes to change the country.
He however said that he will not run for the 2017 presidential elections if Kenyans do not want him to saying "I will not impose myself on the people,"
