{UAH} Research Fellow position: urban metabolism and material & energy flows

Research Fellow position: urban metabolism and material & energy flows

An exciting opportunity to work on the EPSRC-funded research project Liveable Cities, a multi-disciplinary project combining researchers from a wide range of disciplines, including social science, engineering, environmental science and urban studies.

Reporting directly to the Principal Investigator (Professor Chris Rogers), the research fellow will focus on urban metabolism (i.e. the systems of flows through cities), the infrastructures necessary to facilitate such flows and application of a high-level city analysis methodology, which seeks to measure a city's performance from multiple disciplinary perspectives. The research fellow will also work with the wider research team to help unify the emerging outcomes from five broad research challenges surrounding future cities and urban living.

The ideal candidate will have strong background in research and a demonstrable interest in issues related to future cities, sustainability, resource security, carbon reduction and how engineering can bring about radical beneficial change; an understanding of the process of urban design and development; an understanding of city systems; and an interest in and/or experience of using current toolkits related to the provision of low carbon urban environments (e.g. carbon footprinting, ecological footprinting, material flow analysis, lifecycle analysis, Eurostat)
