Tshwane metro to honour boy who lost cancer battle
2015-03-26 14:57Pretoria - The City of Tshwane says it will honour an 8-year-old boy whose dream it was to become a police officer but sadly lost a months-long battle with cancer.Given Sibayoni got the chance to be part of a parade, rode on a motorbike and played with the police dogs as part of his Reach For A Dream experience with the Tshwane Metro Police.
He was diagnosed with kidney cancer in June last year and had surgery in October to have a tumour removed, reported Pretoria News.
In November, Reach For A Dream organised with the Tshwane Metro Police to allow Given the chance to be an "on duty" police officer.
The city announced earlier on Tuesday that it will honour Given by burying him as a police officer "because it was his dream to become one".
Metro police spokesperson Senior Superintendant Isaac Mahamba told Pretoria News that many officers were left shocked by their little friend's passing "because they met him and he changed their lives. He was an inspiration".
