Vision leads to mass grave find in KZN
2015-03-17 12:02Durban - A sangoma's vision led to the shocking discovery of a mass grave with almost 100 skeletons on a farm in KwaZulu-Natal, reports said on Tuesday.
The remains were found on a farm called Glenroy, currently owned by Illovo Sugar, near Dududu on the south coast, reported the Times.
The area is located near former hostels on the farm, the owners of which were apparently known for using prison labour during apartheid.
Private forensic investigator David Klatzow told the newspaper the site of the graves must be considered a crime scene and treated like an archaeological site.
The local municipal manager Msizi Zulu confirmed that a sangoma had approached the provincial government after "spirits began haunting him about the grave". He also said the bodies are believed to be those of prisoners.
But Klatzow also brought up the possibility to the Daily News newspaper that the bodies might belong to victims of apartheid hit squads.
A local chief told the newspaper there had been many stories about people being "slaughtered" on the farm.
