{UAH} Hundreds drown off Libya, EU leaders forced to reconsider migrant crisis
Ugandans
Let each African country contribute 20 soldiers to be deployed at the crossing points along the Libyan coastline to stop human trafficking. Twenty soldiers from each country receiving their local salaries can be mobilized and funded without a big problem. At least we will have attempted to stop the death toll. –Peter Simon Okurut
Some of the solutions these friends post in forums live me wondering if Africa problems will ever be solved. Peter Simon Okurut is a man from Eastern Uganda, well let us raise the number of weapons collected out of his region, and then ask him if Eastern Uganda is the most developed and successful region in Uganda. Let us look at the numbers of guns collected between 2nd December 2001 and 17th January 2002 and that is a span of only a month and something.
Moroto District
Bokora County -(As of 2 Dec 2001) 1059 guns collected, (As of 12 Dec 2001) 1163 guns collected, (As of 14 Jan 2002) 1536 guns collected, (And as of 17 Jan 2002) 1560 guns collected.
Matheniko County -(As of 2 Dec 2001) 500 guns collected, (As of 12 Dec 2001) 554 guns collected, (As of 14 Jan 2002) 669 guns collected, (And as of 17 Jan 2002) 671 guns collected.
Nakapiripirit District
Chekwi county -(As of 2 Dec 2001) 270 guns collected, (As of 12 Dec 2001) 336 guns collected, (As of 14 Jan 2002) 509 guns collected, (And as of 17 Jan 2002) 509 guns collected.
Pian county -(As of 2 Dec 2001) 0 guns collected, (As of 12 Dec 2001) 409 guns collected, (As of 14 Jan 2002) 575 guns collected, (And as of 17 Jan 2002) 582 guns collected.
Pokot county - (As of 2 Dec 2001) 101 guns collected, (As of 12 Dec 2001) 106 guns collected, (As of 14 Jan 2002) 348 guns collected, (And as of 17 Jan 2002) 352 guns collected.
Kotido District
Dodoth County -(As of 2 Dec 2001) 438 guns collected, (As of 12 Dec 2001) 513 guns collected, (As of 14 Jan 2002) 1252 guns collected, (And as of 17 Jan 2002) 1293 guns collected.
Jie county -(As of 2 Dec 2001) 360 guns collected, (As of 12 Dec 2001) 623 guns collected, (As of 14 Jan 2002) 1198 guns collected, (And as of 17 Jan 2002) 1240 guns collected.
Labowor county -(As of 2 Dec 2001) 100 guns collected, (As of 12 Dec 2001) 319 guns collected, (As of 14 Jan 2002) 358 guns collected, (And as of 17 Jan 2002) 386 guns collected.
If you want the sub total of weapons collected in a single month you will get the following numbers, (As of 2 Dec 2001) 2828 guns collected, (As of 12 Dec 2001) 4023 guns collected, (As of 14 Jan 2002) 6445 guns collected, (And as of 17 Jan 2002) 6593 guns collected in only three districts, and yet a month before, 9763 guns had been collected. These numbers are from UHCR (2003) Annual report 2001/2002.
Friends if arming people brings security to societies, everyone should have moved into Moroto, Nakapiripirit let alone Kotido. And yet all sense tell us that they were some of the very unsafe districts in Uganda, a very reason Peter today is sitting in the diaspora. So we have armed ourselves to the teeth and it has failed to work, but if we arm a pile of soldiers from each country and dump them into coast line that will solve our problem.
That kind of reasoning, gives me a constant headache honestly, and one of those days I will just run out of firkin Aspirins. Gees !!!!!!!!

Subject: {UAH} Hundreds drown off Libya, EU leaders forced to reconsider migrant crisis
Colleagues,
Can we formulate a local solution to this unnecessary death of our own? All reports indicate that those attempting to cross the Mediterranean Sea use Libyan coastline to connect to Italy where they perish in the sea. One accident can be excused, but not this trend that sees hundreds of immigrants drowning.
This is yet another challenge which puts African countries in international radar. Why can't we formulate a local solution. Up till now, only European voices can be heard but none from Africa yet the majority of the dead are Africans.
Proposal: Let each African country contribute 20 soldiers to be deployed at the crossing points along the Libyan coastline to stop human trafficking. Twenty soldiers from each country receiving their local salaries can be mobilized and funded without a big problem. At least we will have attempted to stop the death toll.
Peter Simon
