Preparations are underway in the western district of Mbarara to have the title Baba wa Taifa, conferred upon President Yoweri Museveni.

The title, which is Swahili for "Father of the Nation", has been proposed by 50 various National Residence Movement [NRM] groups united under their newly launched platform named Voice of the Movement.

The group was unveiled yesterday by the Mbarara Woman MP Hon Emma Boona, who represented the State Minister for Lands Caroline Akao at the Booma grounds.

The district coordinator of voice of movement-Uganda groups in Mbarara Hajj Jamilu Bakyansi urged the public to vote Museveni come 2016.

He described President Museveni as the only man who has stood out amongst all the other men that Uganda ever produced, and thus deserved to be crowned with the title Baba Wa Taifa.

He remarked, "There's a tendency; a bad habit of tending to glorify the great people of our country when they have departed from us."

"We itemize their good deeds and praise their history at their burial ceremonies when they can no longer hear us. We now want to publicly glorify, appreciate and honorPresident Yoweri Museveni while he is still with us."

Having assumed office in January 1986, President Yoweri Museveni has served longest of all Uganda's previous leaders combined, since the 1962 independence.

At yesterday's event, the Country co-coordinator of the various groups, Joy Katamba Kanyankole requested Ugandans to support the president's economic transformation initiatives instead of involving political ambitions.

He said Museveni would he officially be crowned the Father of the Nation on the coming May 1st Labor Day Celebrations in Kisoro District.

He further asked the groups to propose a party anthem because of the long time it has stayed on power.
