{UAH} SWEDISH PEACE KEEPERS
Comrade Laduma and fellow Swedes,
It was reported in early morning BBC World SErvice that Swedish
soldiers serving in Mali as peace-keepers went on strike because they
claimed the UN food rations served to all soldiers was not enough for
them. They claimed they were going hungry and had lost 1/3rd of their
weight. They were also not being served nordic delicacies like raw
fish and ice cream. In order for them to end their strike, the UN
allowed them to set up their own kitchen and bring their cooks from
Sweden. But this has caused additional problems because there is a
shortage of fresh foods in Mali and the other peace-keepers are
complaining the Swedes buy up all the fresh food in the market. They
complain the Swedes think they are attending a wedding in Mali and not
peace-keeping.
