According to a BBC report, long distance runner Moses Kipsiro's decision to speak out against coach Peter Wemali sexually harassing female runners last year, led to a series of macabre events that have prevented the star from performing lately.

Both Kipsiro and Wemali point to death threats, an attempted abduction and murder of Kipsiro's brother and a recent arson attack on Wemali's house. The Ugandan runner also accuses the coach of witchcraft, and says Wemali is responsible for the death of another athlete who had spoken out against him.

Kipsiro was first thrown off the team after he made a complaint about coach Wemali's proposed method for training five female team members (the youngest of whom of 15) last year. Wemali claims he is the victim of a politically motivated campaign led by Kipsiro.

Wemali, who is a policeman with no experience training star runners, allegedly told five female athletes that they could learn to "run like Kenyans" if they became pregnant and aborted. Allegedly, this would help them widen their private parts and allow their legs to move more freely. The kicker: Wemali was to impregnate them.

The Ugandan Athletics Federation (UAF) suspended Wemali, but insists there is no wrongdoing in the sexual assault case. In the meantime, Kipsiro can compete but is dealing with death threats. He pulled out of the World Cross Country Championships squad last month, which police begun investigating this week. The International Association of Athletics Federations opened an investigation this week on how the UAF is dealing with the matter.
