{UAH} Vienna Arts Festival 2015

Edward P'Ojim, Ocen Nekyon and WBK,

I know you are not interested in the arts, but as honorary Kenyan
citizens, what do you make of the farce regarding Kenyan participation
in this world famous Arts Festival which takes place in May? It was
featured in the BBC World Service this morning, of several Kenyan
artists rising up in disgust about Kenya's participation. The Festival
is a forum or gateway for artists to show case their talents to the
world. But this year, it appears an Italian-Kenyan bought the rights
to showcase Kenya's talents, at an estimated cost of £500,000. These
rights include a pavilion open to the public for the week long event.
Instead of inviting Kenyan artists, this Italian-Kenyan instead sold
the rights to China, so although there will be a Kenyan Pavilion at
the Festival, the art displayed and show-cased will be Chinese. The
Kenyan Embassy sent a fax to the organisers complaining of a case of
"Impersonation", but obviously Kenyan artists are not impressed. They
claim corruption and commercial interests have now taken over
everything in Kenya. The Italian-Kenyan looked at the whole Festival
as a commercial, profit-driven investment whereas Kenyan artists
expected different. But they don't have the money to show case their
talents and the Kenyan government sees no value in investing in the
arts. More likely the Italian-Kenyan has greased a few hands in the
Ministry of Culture.
