Justice Crabbe was born in Accra in the then Gold Coast, now Ghana on 29th October 1923 at 1600hrs. He is the last born of his parents.
He attended the Government Junior Boys School in Jamestown, Accra, after which he attended Government Senior Boys School at Kimbu, now called Technical......In those days it was a great achievement because on completion one could go into the Public Service. He attended Accra Academy and soon after worked with the civilian branch of the Ghana Police Headquarters. He then went on to study Economics at the City of London College at Moorgate and read Law at the Honorable society of the Inner Temple. He was admitted in August 1952 and sat the final bar exam in September 1954 after which he was granted a year's dispensation and called to the bar in February 1955 in the U.K. He came back to Ghana in May 1955 as assistant Crown Counsel and rose to be in charge of the drafting of the legislation. In 1963 he was sent to the Uganda Government and drafted the Ugandan constitution.
After the 1966 coup Justice Crabbe was appointed Special Commissioner to the 1968 Constitutional commission and was the draftsman to the 1969 constituent Assembly. In 1978 he was appointed member of the 1978 Constitutional Commission and also the chairman of the Constituent's Assembly which drafted the 1979 Constitution. In the Mean time, he was appointed the Director of the Commonwealth Secretariat Scheme Legislative drafting in West Africa. During this time he had to go to Nairobi in Kenya in 1982, from there to Zimbabwe in 1983 then went to University of West Indies as Professor of Law.
In 1999 Justice Crabbe returned to Ghana and started the Law revision exercise to revise the laws of Ghana.
