{UAH} A LETTER TO ALL MPS OF THE AUGUST HOUSE.

A LETTER TO ALL MPS OF THE AUGUST HOUSE.
PARLIAMENT OF UGANDA

Kampala, Uganda
19th May 2015.
Dear Honorable Member of Parliament,
I am writing to you as a citizen of Uganda, my name is Shawn Mubiru i live in Kyadondo East Constituency where Honorable Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda represents in the August House, regarding the Constitution (Amendment) Bill 11, 2015, I am writing to implore you to support the proposals in the citizens compact as I am sure you will agree that power belongs to the people. This is particularly highlighted by the same 1995 Constitution that you swore to protect and defend on the stairs of Parliament.

The Citizens Compact proposals as laid down by Civil Society Organizations, citizens from all political parties and the Religious leaders is a direct response to the Government's misguided attempt to ignore the citizens' voice since 2008. The Government is proposing to make this change without a full and thorough consultation from the citizens who are the owners of the mandate they are misusing. I am concerned that this test will be the gauge on either you are rewarded for being on the people's side or you are punished for disrespecting the voice of the people of Uganda.

That this House believes that there needs to be greater protection given to this nation against the selfishness of one man vision, your actions will affect you and your family members and friends across this country, so before you are compelled to go against the citizens of this nation, stop and think about it before you vote for anything.

The whole nation is watching how you will treat the proposals that we believe that bring sanity to our nation. You are our hope if you choose to listen to us. But we will not hesitate to invoke our power as a people as provided by the same Constitution. This moment will go down in our history as a lesson to all our leaders not to play with our mandate.
Honorable Member of Parliament, we want our reforms now! To remind that we are serious we will not accept any other form of elections that is not free and fair. Our election this time will come to pass only when there is an electoral law that will give the people of this country a credible electoral process.

Yours sincerely,
Shawn Mubiru.
