{UAH} Maternity ward turned into pool table room

Pader.

Pader District officials were last week shocked to find that a maternity ward at Angagura Health Centre III has been turned into a pool table room.

The revelation came at the weekend as the officials toured the health centre as part of the Baraza programme. The programme was started by government as a means of strengthening governance and accountability in the public sector.

Mr Michael Owing, the officer in charge of the health centre, said the pool table was donated to the youth by the Red Cross to motivate them to attend HIV testing and counselling services at the facility but they had nowhere to put it.

“The youth are currently using one of the rooms in the maternity ward which is not being utilised at the moment,” he said.

However, the acting district police commander, Mr Romeo Onek Ojara, ordered that the pool table be removed from the maternity ward and taken to Angagura Police Post.

“We cannot watch when the maternity room is being misused in the name of playing pool as a motivating factor for counselling the youth about HIV/Aids,” Mr Ojara said
