Mother held for dumping baby at river

THE police in Kamwenge district are holding a 26-year-old woman on suspicion of desertion her baby at a river with intentions of letting her be eaten by wild animals.

 

The suspect, Annet Kesiima, a resident of Biguri Sub County in Kamwenge district is alleged to have dumped her 5-month old baby on the banks of River Mpanga on Thursday before fleeing.

 

The baby was discovered by one Fred Ruyanga who notified police leading to Kesiime's arrest.

 

On interrogation, the suspect told police that she dumped the baby following a disagreement with the child's father.

 

Edith Kunihira the officer in charge Child and Family Protection at Kamwenge Police says the suspect will be produced before court to answer the charges.
