Mbabazi's declaration to bid for presidency excites Karimojong youth
Moroto. The news about former Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi's declaration to contest for the country's top position has been welcomed with the joy by a group of Karimojong youth elites.
The talk about Mr Mbabazi's declarations is the only topic of the day in Moroto, with most of the youth saying the along waited man has finally declared his ambitions.
According to the youth, Mr Mbabazi will perhaps rescue them from the 'fangs' of high unemployment levels in the area and biting poverty.
"I want to thank President Museveni for bringing peace in Karamoja by removing guns in the hands of the Karimojong but I feel that he should first rest and test Mbabazi also and if he fails to deliver, we shall vote him also out and bring back Mr Museveni," said a one John Lote.
One of the unemployed youth in the area, Mr Paul Lokut said,"I have a degree in sociology but I have failed to get a job. I have bought so many newspapers, looking for jobs and sometimes I succeed to apply but I don't go through the interviews even with all the required documents. So which means the problem is with the current system."
"To me I don't have a problem with President Museveni. He has been a president since I was born but I think he should become a political mentor and give chance to others also to contest," said Ms Sarah Angolere, a graduate holding a diploma in social administration.
However, the deputy resident district commissioner Moroto, Ms Helen Pulukol warned the youth against being excited by fake politics and advised them to embrace projects that government under leadership of President Museveni has put in place to develop the region.
Meanwhile, the NRM deputy secretary general, Mr Richard Todwong, said Mr Mbabazi is free to contest for Presidency, adding that he is not the first and might not be the last to pick interest in the position.
"He is free to contest at whatever level. It is an indicator of democracy. He is not the first. However, the party members will decide [who will be the flag bearer]," Mr Todwong said.

"To announce that there must be no criticism of the president, or that we are to stand by the president right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public."
