Daniel Owira alias Otongolo the boy that left Uhuru in stitches after he did a hilarious poem, was adopted by the president, who promised to pay his fees up to university education.

Now Owira's mother is in hospital, stuck there over unpaid bills. She was the victim of the wall that collapsed on May 10, 2015 in South B where 10 people perished. Rose Awino Owira was discharged from the Nairobi West Hospital three weeks ago but she couldn't leave since the bill was too high for her to pay. She is supposed to pay sh.233,000.

She was able to pay sh. 120,000 which was raised in a Harambee, but she was unable to raise the rest of the money and now is appealing to the public for help. At the time of the accident, she the pillar connecting the wall fell on her and it took seven men to raise it, and two more to drag her from the rubble. she was conscious all through and her jaw had been split into half. Her arm and shoulder bone were broken too.

According to Rose, she had Sh.6000 in her savings account which she used in a South B clinic where she was first taken for first aid and was later referred to Nairobi West Hospital for specialized treatment.

"I was brought here by a friend of my daughter, and fortunately, he agreed to pay Sh4,800 before I got admitted since I had no money at all. I got adequate treatment and was discharged three weeks ago." she said from her hospital bed.

The 52-year-old says her kids have been starving since she is unable to provide for them.

"I have a disabled son who has to be fed, washed and taken care of, and I am the only one who does that. During the floods, my house was filled with water and my elder son had to stand holding his two siblings the whole night. Half of the house was under water. I felt so helpless since the hospital couldn't allow me to go home and take care of my children," said the lady who lives in Fuata Nyayo slums.

She said that Daniel Owira's school also demanded for her to pay a balance of Sh. 18,000 for her son's school.
