{UAH} Uganda's NRM Party moves to allow multiple Presidential candidates
Amama Mbabazi's announcement that he is running for President in 2016, as a second candidate from the ruling NRM Party is great news for Uganda's NRM party and it is even greater news for the state of Democracy in the Uganda. If the Parties themselves can open up to a more fair democratic process internally-then we would have made an incredible evolution from a one candidate dominance to floating multiple candidates.
I have often questioned the wisdom of having one sole candidate run in a place where many wanted to become contenders in all our Political Parties. Now that the biggest Party has evolved to multiple candidates -let all our Parties follow suit.
The biggest challenge ahead falls on the backs of the Uganda Electoral commission members who need to buy into this concept and indeed adjust their process to such a reality. Where multiple candidates are allowed run during a Primary voter session and have the voters decide who wins from each Party to face off with other winners from the other Parties for the General elections. I knew these folks would finally get it, you don't have to tear gas each other to death -let the voters decide -simple!
Each Party has far too many Party stalwarts who have been waiting in the wings for far too long that something of this nature opens up an incredible opportunity for all those members of the NRM party and other Parties as well.
