Buyaga West MP Tinkasiimire joins struggle to redeem Lost Counties land held by absentee landlords.

What has been a seemingly low key Banyoro struggle to redeem Lost Counties land now held by Baganda absentee landlords has suddenly picked momentum sucking in Banyoro MPs and most Banyoro big shots.

Outspoken Buyaga West MP, Barnabas Tinkasiimire, reflecting a new breed of Banyoro citizens, since he is a cross breed, a Munyoro mother and a Mukiga father, now all the important nationalities of Bunyoro are speaking the same language when it comes to demanding the rights of Banyoro.

MP Tinkasiimire was given hero status by Banyoro when he held a press conference in the compound of the Uganda Constitutional Court and demanded the British Government to pay Banyoro billions of UK pound in compensation because they stole Banyoro land and donated it to Baganda who have have been using is to develop Buganda at the expense of Bunyoro.

And the discovery of oil has made matters better by giving Bunyoro-Kitara a bright future. When it comes to oil, and land, all citizens of Bunyoro-Kitaara, from Hoima, Kibaale,Buliisa, Masindi,Kigoroobya, Kibanda, regardless of whether one is a mufuruki or not, Banyoro are speaking the same language.

And this onenness was reflected July 2 when Link Buses transported Banyoro from all corners of the kingdom, travelling the whole night in order to be in Kampala by eight thirty to attend the Constitutional Court interpretation of the Anglo-Ganda 1900 Agreement.

Banyoro have petitioned Uganda High Court to declare this agreement null and void thereby declaring the seven Lost Counties which this agreement is purported to have annexed to Buganda, illegally ceded to Buganda.

Barnabas Tinkasiimire told Banyoro that now is the time for everybody in Bunyoro, big or small, to come together and fight for our land. He called up big shot Banyoro not to leave the land and oil struggle to lower grade Banyoro.

The Buyaga West Mp is n record telling the Government that Bunyoro-kitaraa must benefit from the oil that is has been discovered in their region. He warned that the youths will not fold their hands and watch pipeline taking away oil while for them they cannot even go to school, and are wearing torn clothes.

It will be recalled that the Lost Counties subject very nearly derailed Uganda's independence programme in 1962. Milton Obote had to come in very intelligently and convince Baganda and Banyoro that each sides' interests are going to be served to satisfaction at the Independence Conference in London.

The British on their side had dodged taking the Omukama's petition to the highest Court in the UK, The Privy Council. The UK Government decreed that the Lost counties subject was political therefore it could not be judged in a court of law. Hence the introduction of the provision to hold a referendum in only two of the Lost Counties.

Today the same argument cannot hold water because, as the lawyers have said the conditions have changed. The situation demands that since colonialism and slavery have been declared sins against humanity people cannot be held against their will to live under conditions tantamount to slavery and colonialism.
