{UAH} JEEMA Challenges Kayihura to Arrest M7's Ssebina Ssekitoleeko

OFFICE OF THE PUBLICTY SECRETARY/ SPOKESMAN

Party Headquarters, Mengo, Thursday July 9, 2015

Press Briefing

(Embargoed till 11:00am July 9, 2015)

1. Unacceptable Police Harassment of Political Actors

This morning we have learned with great consternation about the continued police harassment of political actors in the country. Under the leadership of political commissar also the Inspector General of Police, police have infringed upon the civil and political rights of our counterparts in the opposition; Dr Col Kiiza Besigye (picked from his residence in Kasangati and detained in Nagalama), Ingrid Turinawe (detained at Watuba-Gulu road), and former prime minister Amama Mbabazi (detained at Kiira road and released hours later) in addition to a multiplicity of Members of Parliament detained in different locations of the country. Also detained is Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago.

All the leaders were scheduled to share their political perspectives with Ugandans in preparation for campaigns of the forthcoming elections, just a few months away.

We find this unacceptable and utterly deplorable even in the least stage of democracy of any country.

We strongly condemn this practice and call on the police leadership to immediately and unconditionally let those political leaders free since there is no crime whatsoever they have committed that is inconsistent with our constitutional order.

We also call on Ugandans to roar up in unison against this state of misconduct. We challenge the IGP, if there is still an iota of ethical logic in his actions to go ahead and arrest a one Ssebina Sekitoleeko, an established NRM mobilizer who is dishing out chits to other mobilizers of NRM to obtain fuel for Museveni's sole candidature campaign across the country.

Whereas we do not condemn the political aspect of this in this clear political season; we strongly condemn the criminality of misappropriating fuel meant for civil police work into NRM political activities. This is what is expected of a professional police to fight, not innocent political actors.

2.  Stop 'political-rape of students!'

We take this opportunity to call upon our counterparts at the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Secretariat to prevail upon their errant members who are politically rapping the nation's young people in tertiary institutions of learning with their fraud practices in the on-going 'yellow book' registration process.

Severally, NRM aspirants for positions in their primary elections are issuing counterfeit yellow cards to unsuspecting students and have asked them to register in their unusual political localities with the purpose of themselves gaining default 'massive votes' in the primaries. The students are promised to be paid before and upon delivery after the voting exercise which is due soon.

Whereas it's not our norm to interfere in internal affairs of other political establishments, we are duty-bound as a responsible political organization to intervene against negative practices in a society we are diligently looking forward to serve.

Fraud is one of the forms of the corruption cancer that is currently eating deep in the born marrow of our national moral fabric.

It's particularly disturbing that members of the party in government are at the forefront of perpetuating this practice among our very young generation.

It's also of great concern that by the time this information trickled down to us it must have reached the NRM secretariat but the NRM party secretary general Justine Kasule Lumumba remained complacent to the practice.

The practice itself is undermining efforts by the ethics and integrity department of government that seek to create 'integrity student clubs' in higher institutions of leaning to empower the Ugandan society on issues of moral values and principles.

As political actors we are also concerned about the moral caliber of people we are about to go into a national political race with in 2016.

We, therefore, call upon the general public to shun such political mediocre as they are morally not fit to occupy any public office to effectively execute matters of public concern.

We call upon all the targeted students and other youth to continuously expose such errant elements to be isolated from membership of the good society we are aspiring to forge.

Mysterious Murders

We have noted with great concern the historic political reluctance of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) to apply the legal process upon elements in our society that are bent on eliminating precious lives of Ugandans.

We are constrained to rush into conclusion that this could suggest the involvement of some big people in government as accomplices in these heinous crimes. But we are certain that the NRM policies have generally proven to render less value for this nation's human resource capital.

As an intervention on our part, JEEMA is pleased to announce that we have undertaken the initiative to develop internet software where members of the general public will post information regarding all the mysterious termination of Ugandans lives since 1986 to 2015.

We know that Ugandans have so many question marks regarding the death of their dear ones from late Dr Andrew Lutakome Kayira to the infernal that killed Kichwamba students and the current spate of Muslim murders.

This data will facilitate the judicial process to be commissioned as a matter of priority by the new Transitional Government of National Unity (TGNU) next year, which we are part of.

We are reliably informed that our counterparts in the Democratic Alliance (TDA) are also soon going to announce related measures in this line. We urge the public to respond ardently and positively.

Thank you.

For God and My County

Party spokesman, JEEMA
