{UAH} MY BOY, KABILA, REPORTEDLY REVISES HIS MIND ON 3RD TERM: not sure how to treat this
From DRC, a diplomat reports that President Joseph Kabila has
rescinded him pursuit of a third term in office. Joseph succeded his
father, Laurent, in 2001 and has since served two elective terms.
Overtures have been on to extend his rule. Last yeat, deadly clahses
broke out in the capital Kinshasa, as Congolese demanded no such ideas
be entertained. The President instead begun work on a gov;'t of
national unity in a bid to placate rivals.
Now the British ambassador, Graham Zebedee, in the country reportedly
tells media President Kabila won't extend his rule in the interest of
peace and a legacy.
Term extension is an issue in Uganda, Rwanda and Burundi. Burkina
Faso's Compaore was ousted last year when he tried to tinker with his
deadline.
The Kabila development, if confirmed, is an isolated incident which
may not affect events in Rwanda, Uganda and elsewhere.
