On Monday evening, President Museveni met the two rivaling camps in
Fort Portal for close to five hours, in a move aimed at resolving a
leadership crisis in the Kingdom.
A source who attended the meeting, told Wasp that Charles Kamurasi,
the head of the Tooro royal clan, told the President that Kijjanangoma
and his supporters were disrespecting the King and were going ahead
with plans for his coronation.
According to the source, Museveni looked surprised by the revelation
and told Kijjanangoma to stand up and respond to the accusations.
Kijjanangoma reaffirmed to the President that the preparations were
underway and is determined to dethrone King Oyo. Kijjanangoma had set
December 23rd as the date for his coronation at his palace in Rwengoma
in Fort Portal.
Kamurasi also allegedly requested that the security of King Oyo at his
palace in Fort Portal be beefed up, claiming that Kijjanangoma and
some of his supporters were planning to attack the palace and dethrone
him.
According to the source, in his response, the President told more than
40 people who attended the meeting that King Oyo is a recognized King
and if another person takes away the throne, it will plunge the region
into bloodshed, citing last year's attacks in the Ruwenzori region,
which led to the death of more than 90 people.

Museveni also told Kijjanangoma to support King Oyo in developing the
kingdom. He also told Kijjanangoma and his supporters not to involve
him in the conflicts.
Museveni added that he had read it in the media how some people were
trying to involve him in the issue. Dan Rubombora, the head of royal
clan in Kijjanagoma's camp told the President that the cause of
conflicts in the Kingdom was as a result of Tooro Queen Mother, Best
Kemigisa interfering in kingdom administration and the suspension of
the kingdom constitution.

In his response, Museveni directed, Bernard Tungwako, the new Kingdom
Premier to ensure that the administration is left to perform its roles
independently.
Museveni also directed religious leaders in Tooro to mediate in the
conflicts and that both sides should reconcile. The Bishop Ruwenzori
Diocese, Reuben Kisembo, was chosen to spearhead the process. In a
telephone interview with us, Rubombora confirmed the President's
directive.
