Burundi's most prominent activist, Claver Mbonimpa, 67, has been shot under unclear circumstances; a shocking incident that comes high on the heels of the murder of former intelligence chief and powerful military general, Adolphe Nshimirimana.
In Bujumbura, Chimp Corp, Claver Ndushabandi, reports that Mbonimpa, who is president of the Association for the Protection of Human Rights and Detained Persons (Association pour la protection des droits humains et des personnes détenues, APRODH), was travelling home when gunmen opened fire at him.
A bullet reportedly struck the activist's chest before being rushed to the hospital.
