{UAH} Muntu not a mole - Besigye
Gulu.
Former President of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) Party, Dr Kizza Besigye has slammed claims that his successor Maj Gen Mugisha Muntu is a mole.
He said the allegations labelled against Gen. Muntu are ridiculous. "I worked with Gen. Muntu in the army for long. As UPDF army Commander, he was my boss After moving away from the NRM, we both joined hands under the FDC," Dr Besigye said. "I have been the party president and Gen Muntu was directly under me as party Secretary for mobilization. He is the one leading me as the party boss, and for all this time we worked together, I have known nothing wrong with him," he explained.
Col Besigye added that he has great respect for Gen Muntu's leadership skills that have shaped the party. "These allegations are not true, I will not believe in them. Gen Muntu has been a strong party member, he fell out with Mr Museveni just like the way I did and definitely he cannot act as a mole in the party," Col Besigye said.
Dr Besigye made the remarks while addressing FDC delegates from Acholi sub-region at Paragon Guest House in Gulu town on Friday. Dr Besigye like Gen Muntu is canvassing for votes to become the FDC presidential flag bearer in the run up to the 2016 election. Besigye urged FDC supporters to appreciate Gen Muntu's work methods arguing that each leader has their own leadership styles. He added that he will have no problem with the FDC delegates' decision if they elect his comrade Gen Muntu.
While addressing FDC delegates in Gulu town late last month, Gen. Muntu said he was no longer bothered with being identified as a mole planted to destabilise FDC party. He said his tool against such unfounded allegations is remaining silent.
Later, addressing supporters at Kaunda Grounds in Gulu town, Dr Besigye urged them to shun what he termed as the dictatorial rule of President Museveni.
"Other regions have already realised the dictatorial governance of President Museveni, and have shunned him. It's this region that is still being confused by Museveni due to the suffering you faced under the LRA."
FDC delegates will elect the presidential flagbearer on September 2.
