{UAH} NRM sued by food suppliers
KAMPALA- For failing to pay Shs61 million to a group of catering companies that supplied food during the party's delegates conference last year, the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party has been sued.
In a suit filed before the Commercial Court, the plaintiffs (catering companies) contend that the services in question were provided to 3,000 delegates during the NRM party accreditation exercise at Kololo Airstrip in Kampala.
Other services were provided at the party delegates conference on December 15, 2014 at Mandela National Stadium.
"Plaintiffs performed their part of the agreement and even cooked extra food in a bid to satisfy the extra number of delegates beyond original agreed numbers," the charge filed through their attorneys of Kiwanuka and Mpiima Advocates reads in part.
"The defendant (NRM) made part payment to each of the plaintiffs but, did not pay the balance after the services were provided," the plaint reads.
In their suit, the plaintiffs further contend that they have been prompted to seek relief from court because NRM party has continuously failed to respond to their demand to settle the said money.
According to the suit, the last demand was made on June 29, 2015, to Ms Kasule Lumumba, the party secretary general.
The restaurants include; Hotel Mamerito Ltd, Boston View Restaurant Ltd, Emma and David Restaurant Ltd and Mukama Kyaterekera Restaurant Ltd. Others are Penninah Catering Restaurant Ltd, Mamaz Ltd, Nnalango Trust Outside Catering Restaurant Ltd, Ninat Investments and Focus Logistics Ltd.
They (plaintiff) in their suit also assert that they have been occasioned to financial loss due to reduction in the working capital to operate their restaurant businesses.
They want a court judgment to be entered against NRM with orders compelling them to pay for damages from inconveniences caused, for financial loss plus 14 per cent interest from the date of judgment.
The deputy registrar Mr Thaddeus Opesen has summoned NRM party to file their defence in respect to the suit within 15 days of service.
